Scientists in Western Australia have discovered a rare genetic mutation in a tree frog that has resulted in its unusually blue color. The blue magnificent tree frog was found in the Kimberley region’s Charnley River-Artesian Range Wildlife Sanctuary. This is the first recorded instance of a blue color mutation in the magnificent tree frog. According to experts, such a mutation is extremely rare, with only occasional instances of green frogs lacking yellow pigment in their skin and turning mostly or entirely blue. The magnificent tree frog is a large amphibian native to northern Kimberley and nearby areas of Australia’s Northern Territory. This discovery highlights the diverse wildlife found in the Kimberley region.
