A man in Spain has died from a disease resembling Ebola called Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF). He contracted the disease after being bitten by a tick. The 74-year-old died from organ failure in an isolation unit in Madrid. CCHF causes severe outbreaks of viral hemorrhagic fever similar to Ebola. Initial symptoms include fever, chills, vomiting, and diarrhea, followed by mood swings and confusion. CCHF is difficult to prevent and treat, with no available vaccine. It is mainly transmitted by ticks and contact with infected animals. Human-to-human transmission is also possible. Spain has seen an increase in CCHF cases in recent years.
