NEW YORK — In an unexpected upset, Danielle Collins lost to fellow American Caroline Dolehide in the first round of her final Grand Slam tournament before retiring from tennis. Despite winning the first set convincingly, Collins faced a determined Dolehide who managed to edge out a tight second set. However, the turning point came during Collins’ serve when Dolehide hit a shot that struck Collins. Although Collins fought back to break Dolehide’s serve, another error on match point ultimately ended her Grand Slam career. Dolehide, currently ranked 46th in the world, will advance to the second round to face either Cristina Bucsa or Sara Errani.
